Georgia Southern University:

Sanford Hall - School of Communication Arts

This 3-1/2 story, 30,000 s.f., renovation of a historic building will convert an outdated, wood framed dormitory into the new School of Communication Arts.  The new facility will house TV studios, a radio station, converging media spaces, editing labs, TEAL classrooms, production suites, performance classrooms, auditorium space, offices and regular classrooms.  The existing building sits on Sweetheart Circle, in the center of the original campus, and is being treated as a historic preservation project on the exterior.  The interior however, is being gutted and the existing structural wood framing replaced with a new structural steel support system.  This is very much like building a ship in a bottle; as we are performing virtually all operations through existing openings without affecting the historic brick exterior of the building.  In addition to the historical aspects of the project, the building has attained LEED Silver Certification and was awarded the Board of Regents Innovation in Design Award for 2014
